Keep the features distinct
A daily check-in is not the same as a timed safety session. Do not assume it runs the same grace, escalation or location-sharing process. Review the feature before relying on it.
Agree on what an update means
Talk to the people in your circle about the routine and how to contact you. A missed update can have many explanations; a phone status is not proof of an emergency.
