Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 18, 2026 · SafeMeet LLC
This Privacy Policy explains how SafeMeet LLC ("SafeMeet," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the SafeMeet mobile application and the website at safemeet.space (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here and to our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
SafeMeet (safemeet.space) is an independent real-world personal-safety application and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or associated with safemeet.us or any similarly named product.
1. Summary
SafeMeet is a personal-safety tool. To do its job it processes sensitive data — including your live location and, when you enable it, audio recordings. We collect only what the safety features require, encrypt sensitive data at rest, never sell your personal information, and give you controls to access or delete your data. The detail below describes exactly what we collect and why.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information — your name, email address, phone number, profile photo, and authentication identifiers managed through our authentication provider.
- Age bracket — one of two values, 13–17 or 18 and over, plus how it was established (Apple’s Declared Age Range, where your device offers it, or your own answer on a neutral age screen) and when. We do not collect or store your date of birth. Where you answer on the age screen, the date you enter is converted to a bracket on your device and the date itself is discarded — it is never sent to us. We use the bracket only to decide whether an account may be created at all and which protections apply to it.
- Location data — precise GPS location, speed, heading, and movement/activity classification, collected in the foreground and, where you grant permission, in the background, so that check-ins, Follow Me Home, and emergency escalation can function.
- Trusted contacts — names and phone numbers of the people you choose to share your safety status with. You are responsible for having permission to add them.
- Audio recordings — if and only if you enable the feature and the conditions you set are met (for example, a missed check-in or an SOS), the app may capture a short ambient audio clip.
- Device and technical data — device model, operating-system version, app version, battery level and charging state, push-notification tokens, IP address, and diagnostic/crash logs.
- Community Relay messages — if you turn on Community Relay, and only then, your phone may seal a location update or SOS into an encrypted capsule and hand it over Bluetooth to another SafeMeet phone nearby, which uploads it to us when it has a connection. Your phone may also carry capsules for other people the same way. A capsule identifies the account that created it to us once we receive it, so we can apply that update to the right account; the phone that carried it holds only ciphertext and cannot read the contents, the sender, or the location inside. Carried capsules are stored encrypted, capped in size and number, and deleted when delivered or expired. Community Relay is off unless you switch it on, and switching it off stops all Bluetooth scanning, advertising and carrying.
- Usage data — a first-party record of how the app is used, kept so we can find out where setup fails. It covers app launches, onboarding steps, which sign-in method you chose, whether signing up succeeded or failed, permission prompts and their answers, safety sessions started and completed, check-ins, and paywall views — together with the app version, operating-system version and a safe error code when something fails. It never contains your location, the contents of a safety session, a recording, a message to a trusted contact, a password or a token. Each event carries a random installation identifier that the app generates on first launch and stores on your device. It is not derived from your device, your network or any advertising identifier, and reinstalling the app or signing out and deleting the app data produces a new one. Before you have an account, that identifier is all an event carries. Once you sign in, events are recorded against a one-way cryptographic code derived from your account identifier rather than the identifier itself, and events from that installation are joined to your account so we can see whether setup completed. We do not use this data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not use it to track you across other apps or websites. We keep it for up to 400 days and delete the records tied to your account when you delete your account.
- Payment data — subscriptions are processed through the App Store's in-app purchase system or a third-party payment processor. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number; we receive only limited transaction and subscription-status information.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide core safety features: live location sharing, scheduled check-ins, Follow Me Home, distress alerts, and SMS fallback.
- To deliver push notifications and, where applicable, SMS messages to you and your trusted contacts.
- To process subscriptions, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms.
- To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4. Audio Recording & Your Legal Responsibility
Audio recording is an optional, user-controlled feature. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of audio recording is lawful in your jurisdiction. Recording-consent laws vary widely — some places require all-party consent, others one-party consent. SafeMeet provides a tool; it does not provide legal advice, and we are not responsible for your compliance with applicable wiretapping, eavesdropping, or consent laws. Captured clips are transmitted over encrypted connections, delivered to your designated contact via a one-time link, and deleted after download or expiry.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- With your trusted contacts — the location, status, and clips you direct the app to share.
- With service providers — vetted vendors that provide infrastructure, hosting, push and SMS delivery, authentication, and payment processing on our behalf, each bound by contract to process data only as we instruct.
- For legal reasons — to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of users, the public, or SafeMeet.
- With nearby SafeMeet devices, as sealed ciphertext — when Community Relay is on, an encrypted capsule of yours may pass through a stranger’s phone on its way to us, and theirs through yours. Neither phone can open the other’s capsule, and neither is shown who the capsule belongs to.
- In a business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, then for the period required to meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. Audio clips are short-lived and deleted after download or expiry. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Your Rights).
7. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. California residents have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights, and we do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, email hello@safemeet.space. You can also disable location permissions or uninstall the app at any time, though doing so will disable the safety features that depend on them.
Deleting your account. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly in the app at Settings → Privacy → Delete account. If you no longer have the app installed, email hello@safemeet.space to request deletion. Account deletion removes your profile, location history, and recordings, except where we are required to retain limited records to meet legal obligations.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including strong encryption of sensitive fields at rest and TLS in transit. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot and do not guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk and are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
Community Relay. Capsules are sealed with authenticated encryption on the originating device and opened only by our servers. A carrying device cannot decrypt one, cannot alter one without the server rejecting it, and cannot substitute its own identity for the sender’s. Carrying a capsule for someone does not make that person appear online, connected, or located to anyone.
9. Children’s Privacy & Teen Accounts
Under 13. The Service is not directed to children under 13, we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, and we do not knowingly provide them accounts. Before the app collects a name, username, phone number or any location, it asks for an age range; an answer under 13 ends the flow on the device, and no SafeMeet profile is created. Our servers refuse to create an account without an age bracket, so the app is not the only thing enforcing this. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact hello@safemeet.space and we will delete it.
13 to 17. SafeMeet is a general-audience service with a minimum account age of 13. Teen accounts are treated more conservatively than adult ones, and these restrictions are enforced server-side: no public safety profile is served for the account, the paid public shareable-location link is refused for it, and it is not returned by partial name search — only by its exact username. Location is shared only with people the account holder has accepted and can be revoked at any time; a Family subscription does not by itself grant anyone access to another member’s location. Teen accounts are not used for advertising, and we do not sell personal information about anyone.
Accounts that predate the age gate are stored as unverified with no assurance timestamp, because no assurance took place. They are asked once, in the app. We do not infer an age from how long an account has existed, what it pays for, its phone number or its location history.
Age assurance data. We keep the bracket, the method and the timestamp — nothing more. If your device supports Apple’s Declared Age Range API, Apple returns a range to the app and never gives us a birthday. If you answer on our own age screen, the conversion to a bracket happens on your device.
10. International Transfers
We operate in the United States and may process and store data there or in other countries whose data-protection laws may differ from yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third parties, including the App Store, cellular carriers, mapping providers, and our infrastructure, authentication, messaging, and payment processors. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
