The Urgent Need for Personal Safety in Modern Interactions

In an increasingly connected world, real-world interactions are more common than ever. Yet, concerns about personal safety remain a significant challenge for many.

Meeting Strangers & Online Dating Safety

A 2021 study revealed that three out of four people experienced sexual violence facilitated by dating apps. For more details, see NSVRC statistics. Furthermore, 1 in 3 survey respondents were subjected to in-person sexual violence after meeting someone through a dating app or website. These statistics highlight the critical need for safety tools when meeting new people from online platforms.

The Reality of Acquaintance Violence

While often overlooked, approximately 8 out of 10 cases of sexual assault involve a perpetrator known to the victim. Learn more about sexual violence prevention from the CDC. This underscores that danger isn't always from a stranger, but can arise in social or dating contexts, making proactive safety measures essential for all interactions.

Understanding the Risks

Sexual Violence Is Alarmingly Common

  • 1 in 5 women and nearly 1 in 4 men in the U.S. have experienced contact sexual violence.
  • 8 out of 10 sexual assaults involve someone the victim knows.
  • Over 463,000 people (age 12+) are raped or sexually assaulted each year in the U.S.
  • The lifetime cost of rape per victim is estimated at $122,461.

The Emotional & Physical Toll

  • 94% of rape survivors experience PTSD symptoms within two weeks.
  • 1 in 3 contemplate suicide; 13% attempt it.
  • Long-term effects include depression, substance abuse, and chronic illness.

SafeMeet addresses these critical vulnerabilities by providing a reliable, discreet, and powerful safety net, ensuring you can navigate your social life with greater confidence and peace of mind.

Our Mission: Confidence in Every Connection

In today’s world, meeting new people—whether through dating apps, social events, or professional networking—comes with real risks. Studies show that 1 in 3 people have experienced sexual violence after meeting someone online, and most assaults aren’t committed by strangers, but by acquaintances. SafeMeet exists to change that narrative.

From Concern to Confidence

Connecting with new people can be exciting, but it's natural to have concerns. Whether it's a first date, meeting a new acquaintance, or simply navigating unfamiliar surroundings, feeling uneasy or vulnerable is a valid concern.

SafeMeet was created to empower you in these moments. Our app works quietly in the background, providing a smart safety net. With customizable manual check-ins that trigger an automated protocol if missed, instant alerts with your live location, and discreet voice recording for trusted contacts, SafeMeet helps you feel supported and confident in your real-world interactions.

Comprehensive & Discreet Safety Features

Manual Check-ins & Automated Safety Protocol

You initiate check-ins at custom intervals during your meetup by responding to app prompts. If a check-in is missed, SafeMeet's protocol automatically activates, notifying your trusted contacts and initiating emergency procedures to ensure help is alerted even if you can't respond. This is a truly passive safety layer.

Instant Emergency Alerts with Live Location

In critical situations, a single tap allows you to trigger an immediate emergency alert. This alert is sent directly to your selected trusted contacts, providing them with your live location coordinates, current address, and a direct map link for rapid response when seconds count.

Manage Trusted Connections & Mutual Tracking

Build your personal safety network by easily adding and managing trusted contacts. These individuals will receive critical notifications and your location in an emergency. Continuous live location sharing is available with other SafeMeet users only if both parties are friends within the app and have enabled this optional setting.

Discreet Emergency Voice Recording

As an optional but highly recommended feature, SafeMeet can automatically begin an audio recording if a safety check-in is missed or an alert is triggered. This recording is securely stored and shared with your trusted contacts in an emergency, providing crucial context. Your privacy is paramount; this audio is never sold or made public. Two-party consent is handled automatically where required by law.

Real-time Live Location Sharing & Geofencing

SafeMeet allows you to share your live location with your trusted contacts, either during an active meetup session or continuously 24/7 if you and your connection have both approved the mutual location sharing. This provides continuous peace of mind. You can also define and track geofenced areas to monitor entries and exits, adding an extra layer of continuous security.

Private Meetup History & Safety Statistics

Every SafeMeet session is meticulously logged into your private history, allowing you to review past meetup locations, dates, who you met with, and add personal notes. Gain valuable insights into your safety habits with detailed statistics on total meetups, safe hours, longest sessions, and emergency alerts triggered.

How SafeMeet Works: Your Steps to Enhanced Safety

Please note: SafeMeet requires an active internet connection to function and connect to our servers for real-time alerts and location sharing.

1

Create Your SafeMeet Session

Easily set up your session by entering a title, the person you're meeting (optional), and selecting a location. Use the integrated map search or quick-select nearby public places like coffee shops or restaurants for enhanced safety.

2

Configure Safety Settings & Connections

Define your meetup's duration and check-in frequency. Add trusted friends or family from your contacts who will be alerted in an emergency. You can also send and receive location sharing requests from other SafeMeet users. Remember, location is not actively shared with friends unless both parties have the SafeMeet app and have enabled this optional setting.

3

Engage with Manual Check-ins & Monitoring

Once your session begins, SafeMeet intelligently prompts you for regular manual check-ins. If you fail to respond, the automated protocol will activate. If enabled, the app will also manage two-party consent for voice recording and share your live location with your trusted contacts (if mutual sharing is enabled).

4

Emergency Protocol Triggered: Initial Panic

If you miss a check-in, or manually trigger an alert, SafeMeet immediately enters an "Initial Panic" state. Your trusted contacts receive an urgent SMS alert with your meetup details, last known location, and a direct map link. This initial alert provides crucial context for your safety network.

5

Escalation to Final Panic (Voice Recording)

If you still don't respond after the initial alert and grace period, the protocol escalates to "Final Panic." At this stage, if enabled in your settings, a discreet voice recording begins and is securely uploaded. A link to this recording is then shared with your trusted contacts, providing additional critical context.

6

Enjoy Enhanced Peace of Mind

With SafeMeet managing your safety in the background, you can engage in your real-world interactions with a new level of confidence, knowing that your safety network is aware and prepared to assist if needed. All features are optional and customizable to your preference for a better safety experience.

SafeMeet in Action: Real-World Scenarios

See how SafeMeet enhances safety, whether your meetup goes smoothly or takes an unexpected turn.

Scenario 1: A Smooth Meetup

A Smooth Start

Sarah is meeting someone new for coffee. She opens SafeMeet, sets the coffee shop's location, a 2-hour session with 30-minute check-in prompts, and adds her sister, Emily, as a trusted contact. She also enables discreet voice recording.

During the Session: Responding to Prompts

As the conversation flows, SafeMeet sends Sarah discreet notifications reminding her to manually check in. Each time, she simply taps "I'm OK." Her live location is continuously shared with Emily (as they are friends in the app and have enabled this optional setting), giving Emily peace of mind without needing to actively monitor.

Ending Safely

The meetup concludes positively. Sarah ends the session in the app, adds a quick note about the date, and SafeMeet logs the entire session in her private history. No alerts were needed, and both Sarah and Emily feel reassured by the safety net that was in place.

Scenario 2: When Things Go Wrong

An Uneasy Start

Just like before, Sarah sets up her SafeMeet session for a coffee meetup, adding Emily as her trusted contact and enabling voice recording (all optional settings).

Missed Check-in & Initial Panic

During the meetup, the situation becomes uncomfortable, and Sarah is unable to respond to a check-in prompt. SafeMeet immediately sends a notification to her phone: "You missed your check-in! Confirm you're safe now or an alert will be sent soon." A 60-second grace period begins. At this point, Emily receives an urgent SMS alert with Sarah's meetup details (if enabled), last known location, and a direct map link.

Grace Period Expired & Final Panic

If you still don't respond after the initial alert and grace period, the protocol escalates to "Final Panic." At this stage, if enabled in your settings, a discreet voice recording begins and is securely uploaded. Emily then receives an updated alert, which now includes a link to this voice recording, providing crucial additional context.

Trusted Contact Response

Emily, seeing the escalated alert and hearing the audio, immediately calls Sarah. If Sarah doesn't answer, Emily has all the critical information (live location, address, and audio context) to contact emergency services or go to Sarah's location, knowing exactly where and what is happening.

SafeMeet's Impact & Customization

This scenario highlights SafeMeet's crucial role as an automated safety net. Even when a user cannot act, the app ensures that their trusted network is immediately informed and equipped with vital information to provide assistance, significantly increasing the chances of a positive outcome. Remember, all features, including location sharing, meetup details, and voice recording, are optional and can be enabled or disabled by the user for a tailored safety experience.

Proactive Safety Tips for Every Meetup

Choose Public & Safe Meetup Locations

Always meet in well-lit, public places with other people around, like a bustling coffee shop, a busy restaurant, or a public park. Avoid secluded or private settings for initial meetings. SafeMeet's integrated location search helps you find and log safe spots.

Share Your Plans with Trusted Contacts

Inform a trusted friend or family member about your meetup details, including the location, the name of the person you're meeting, and your expected return time. SafeMeet automates sharing your live location and alerts with your chosen contacts, providing peace of mind to your safety network.

Arrange Independent Transport & Exit Strategy

Ensure you have a reliable way to get to and from your meetup independently. Avoid relying on the other person for transportation, especially for your first encounter. Always have a clear exit strategy in mind, and let your trusted contacts know your plan.

Keep Your Phone Charged & Accessible

Make sure your phone is fully charged before you leave, and have a power bank if possible. Keep it easily accessible throughout your meetup in case you need to activate an alert or access SafeMeet's discreet safety features.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SafeMeet truly free to use?

Yes, SafeMeet's core safety features, including manual check-ins that trigger an automated protocol, instant emergency alerts, trusted connection management, and basic meetup history, are completely free. We believe essential safety shouldn't have a price tag. We offer premium subscriptions for advanced functionalities that enhance your safety experience.

How does emergency voice recording work, and is consent handled?

When enabled, SafeMeet can automatically start recording audio if you miss a check-in or trigger an emergency alert. This recording is securely uploaded and shared with your designated trusted contacts to provide them with crucial context for your situation. SafeMeet automatically handles two-party consent requirements based on your meetup location, sending a consent request to the other party if needed. Recordings are never accessed nor shared publicly.

What data does SafeMeet collect and how is it used?

SafeMeet collects minimal data necessary for its safety functions, primarily your location during active sessions, contact information for your trusted network, and meetup details. This data is used solely to facilitate emergency alerts and provide safety features. We never sell your data to third parties. For full details, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

How quickly are emergency alerts sent?

Emergency alerts are designed for instantaneous delivery. Once triggered (either manually or by a missed check-in), the system immediately sends SMS alerts with your live location to your trusted contacts, aiming for near real-time notification to enable rapid response.

What are geofenced areas and how do they work?

Geofenced areas in SafeMeet allow you to define specific virtual boundaries (e.g., your home, office, or a friend's house) with a set radius. You can track when you or your connections enter or exit these areas, providing an additional layer of location-based safety monitoring. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring loved ones arrive safely at designated locations.

How can I manage connections and location sharing in the app?

SafeMeet includes a comprehensive connection management system. You can add other SafeMeet users by their unique User ID, send and receive requests to share location, and accept or decline incoming requests directly within the app. This allows you to build a trusted network of SafeMeet users for enhanced mutual safety.

Does SafeMeet integrate with emergency services (e.g., 911)?

SafeMeet currently focuses on alerting your trusted contacts with critical information (live location, address, voice recording) to enable them to contact emergency services on your behalf. Direct integration with emergency services is a complex feature that varies by region, and while under consideration for future development, our primary goal is to empower your personal safety network for rapid response.

What if my phone dies or loses signal during a meetup?

SafeMeet is designed to work even in challenging situations. If your phone battery dies or you lose internet signal and miss a check-in, the automated safety protocol will still activate based on your last known status. If an alert was sent *prior* to your phone dying or losing signal, that alert would still be delivered. If you were sharing your live location with friends, your *last known location* would still be visible to them. However, without an active internet connection, new alerts cannot be sent to our servers. We recommend keeping your phone charged and, if possible, carrying a portable charger for extended peace of mind.

How do I add or remove trusted contacts?

You can easily manage your trusted contacts within the SafeMeet app's settings. You can add contacts from your phone's address book or by their SafeMeet User ID. You also have full control to remove contacts at any time. We recommend regularly reviewing your trusted contacts to ensure your safety network is up-to-date.
